Pricing Your Kitchen

Five Factors in kitchen pricing.

You can be in charge of what your new kitchen Cabinets cost if you know how kitchens are priced. Pricing a kitchen is based upon the following items.
(listed in order of cost factor) 

1). Cabinet construction methods and materials.

e.g. Kitchen cabinet carcasses made from HMR particle board costs more than a standard particle board made carcasses.

If you find you need to save money don’t skimp in the area of cabinet construction. Better construction methods make a kitchen durable.

Cabinet construction may be  approx 50 % of the cabinet cost.

DK Cabinets  are solely made from HMR particle board (High Moisture Resistant), we do not skimp on quality.

2) Layout of the kitchen and the cabinet configuration will largely effect the price.

A lazy susan will cost more than a sink cabinet. A stack of drawers will be higher priced than a one drawer/two door base cabinet. A U-shaped kitchen costs more than an L-shape with an island. Setting a budget to design with, can often save you many hours of re-design. If you have us create your layout and design, please don’t be offended when we ask you for a budget figure.

3) Door Style/Profile.

Example: A door with many details (routered grooves) will usually cost more than a simple door. If you add an arch to a square panel, expect to pay more. Door styles often come in categories, so when browsing ask our sales team to show you the different profiles or pick up a brochure which will also show you in detail the different categories in design. Doors with Glass/Perspex inserts will cost more along with finishes.

4) The type of finish will vary the pricing.

All of our finishes are the best available. Example . 2 Pack-painted cabinet doors will be more expensive than a standard laminate doors, the factors in this are the increased labour costs due to the amount of sanding and spraying involved in producing and creating our durable high quality finishes.  Vinyl wrapped doors are higher priced due also to the process and materials involved. On a scale from low to highest priced doors it starts at; Laminate Doors, Hardform, Vinyl wrapped, 2-Pack Painted and then timber, being the dearest.

5) Bench top types

This area is similar to door finishes it varies greatly depending on material and colours. Laminate tops are obviously the cheapest most economical and solid stone tops are one the highest in price! A thing to remember with stone tops is  that the price varies depending on the colours, which is also the case with acrylic tops. So please check with your designer .

One question that we often get asked is “How much does a kitchen cost?’’ And well it’s not an easy question to answer, as you can see above there are so many factors that alter the price you can never give a ball park figure and be accurate. The best way to give an accurate price is to have the client select all finishes and accessories and have the layout completed and have a quotation produced from this information.

Kitchens can cost any where from $7000 up to $60,000 it all just depends on what style of finishes your after.

Another important area to look at is your budget for the project.

In order for our designer to give you the best value for money, it is important to specify a budget amount. As we are in the competitive business of offering the best custom product for a fixed contract price, we will strive to design a kitchen packed with as many features and quality products as we possibly can to suit your specified budget, which in turn our competitors also have to match.

Keep in mind that if you are renovating that there are additional costs that need to be considered:

  1. Relocating services, Plumbing, electrical and gas outlets. To save costs try to leave existing appliances in their current locations if possible.
  2. Floor coverings. Are the existing floor coverings remaining or will new flooring be required.
  3. Tiling (Walls, Floors)
  4. Plastering, patching of walls, cornice and ceiling in some cases.
  5. Possible building works. (Moving internal walls, windows or doors etc.)
